Kathmandu, Nepal
Namaste Family & Friends:
I arrived in Kathmandu on April 1. The flight went fast (17 hours from LAX to Bangkok and 3-1/2 hours from Bangkok to Kathmandu). I am staying at the Yak & Yeti Hotel.
It is great to be back for my 5th time, and it feels like my “second home.” Kathmandu has not changed–still noisy, busy, crowded and a bit polluted. I love it!
Yesterday, Dawa Steven took David and I to the resort Asian Trekking is building in the mountains outside Kathmandu. It was a relaxing and enjoyable day. Today, I am shopping for a computer that I can use with my satellite phone to send reports from the mountain so you will receive written and audio reports.
Our permits came in from China, so we are leaving for Chinese Base Camp in Tibet on April 6. The itinerary is on my webpage.
Yesterday, Peter Thomas wrote a story on my trip that appeared on Yahoo. He did a really nice job. As a result of the story, which is now posted on my Home Page, I had so many hits on my website that it crashed. Peter also told me that Yahoo is running the story longer than usual because of the heavy interest.
Well, that’s it for now.
