Camp 1-East Buttress of Burke-Khang

Following is the transcription of the audio report from Camp 1.  You can listen to the audio report below.

“Namaste everyone it’s Bill Burke at Camp 1….the east buttress of Burke-Khang. We came up yesterday…about 2500 feet of elevation gain over 70 degrees vertical… over rocks and debris and snow and ice and it took, especially for me, a really long time to get here but we are all here doing well.  We’re taking a rest day today. Right now Garrett and Sid  are doing a recon of the ridgeline. They are not back yet so they will give a report when they get back. So we are fine…today is a rest day and tomorrow we will make our move. So as long as the battery to this satellite phone holds out , if you don’t hear from me it’ because the battery didn’t hold out, but so far so good.  I will report back, probably after our summit day. It is beautiful up here…mountains…on the ridgeline of Burke-Khang…. and it’s a beautiful sunny day, not a cloud in the sky, the mountains are beautiful.   I will report back in a couple of days. Love you guys, bye”…… (then satellite remains on for a bit in his pocket- so much for that battery!)

Following the audio report are some great photos taken by  Garrett Madison.
