I am at Base Camp. Stunning beauty. Very cold & windy. No snow since Gokyo. Took 5 Sherpas 25 hours over 2 days to run lines from BC to C1.No internet & very little communication possible. Trying to get sat phones working. Love my team.Tomorrow I move to Intermediate Base Camp. Between BC and C1 Sherpas report climbing & line fixing very difficult b/c cold, windy & deep snow.Naga reports Shooting Gallery very active between noon and 3 PM. I feel great. (Meaning rock fall danger.)
Stay safe Bill! God Speed!
Truly a serious mountain, a major Himalayan peak, and your name is on it! Quite incredible!
Most folks don’t have a park bench named after them.
Summit or not, you have done well.
Paul
Thanks for the update. Stay safe. I’m so excited for you.
Bill,
You have accomplished feats that many will only dream about. You are California’s state treasure–pure gold! Blessing as you trek onward!
Rick
Good update Bill. Hope the snow conditions ease a bit.
You are an inspiration keeping you in our prayers!
Bill, I think that I am going to develop an ulcer, from reading all the posts late at night. I need to read this in the morning, when I have food in my stomach. Ha! That said, I am just so excited for you and this climb of a lifetime. The incredible determination and grit that you possess, is such an inspiration to me. God speed ahead, and make the skies be clear and the snow be stable for your summit, and return down.
I get the idea that none of these attempts would be possible without Sherpas to do the dangerous and difficult work. Do you ever have the feeling that you’re encouraging them to take risks with their lives that they wouldn’t if they had a better way to make a living?
