Kathmandu, Nepal

Namaste Family & Friends:
It’s hard to believe, but I am back at the Yak & Yeti in Kathmandu. It seems like I just left this place.
The flight was good for Allan and I–17 hours from LAX to Bangkok and 4 hours from Bangkok to Kathmandu. I am feeling pretty jet-lagged, but time will take care of that problem. We met part of the team last night at Asian Trekking. More on that later. Today, as Expedition Leader, I have a meeting at the Ministry of Tourism. It’s pretty much a formalism, but Allan is going to film the meeting for the documentary. This morning, I will be working on programming my electronics so I can send photos and video from the mountain. All of Allan’s equipment is working good, so we are in great shape. We’re going to test our Skype capabilities this morning.
Yesterday, I got some great news from Sharon and Asian Trekking. It looks like the fixed lines are going up early this year on the South side. The lines may be fixed as early as the first week of May. This will make it possible for me to summit early on the South and then head over to Tibet for the North side climb. I am excited to consider this possibility. I will need to do some serious acclimatization climbs when I arrive at Base Camp so I will be ready for a summit push in early May.
That’s all for now. I’ll write again soon.

Fantastic news! I’m feeling the wanderlust from half way around the world. Best of luck! Fred
Hi, Bill,
We are following your progress as a class at South Middle School in Salina. Can’t wait to see a picture of you wearing one of our shirts. We hope we can skype with you sometime between May 1 and May 18. Let us know the details of how to set that up if at all possible. Our thoughts and prayers are with you. You are an inspiration to all of us.
Woo hoo, Kathmandu!! The warm friendships in Nepal (Asian Trekking, Yak and Yeti…) will make in-country acclimation easy and enjoyable. Carbo-load on this front end of your journey and enjoy the yak-worn path to EBC (Everest Base Camp). Blessings,
Rockman
Exciting news on the fixed lines!! Have a great time on your way up to base camp!
hi Bill,
We always look forward to your post. Thanks for the update! Glad to hear about the lines going up early. Keeping you in our prayers!

It’s sounding like the adventure is really starting — that’s incredible news about the lines going up so soon, and I hope you’ll be able to take advantage of them to accomplish your goal with room to spare. Just means more for us to pray for, and to enjoy following!
My wife and I are following you from Emma Mo. Are prayers are with you.
What great news! Sounds like all is off to a smooth start. I will pray for you daily that it continues Uncle Bill!
Great to hear all is going well so far! I will be mentioning your expedition at the WECAD dinner in my remarks next Sunday. Best to you and Allan
