Namche Bazaar

The trek from Phakding to Namche Bazaar is one of my favorite trekking days.
We left the Mountain Resort tea house in Phakding at the 8:00 am. David arrived in Namche Bazaar at 11 am, and I arrived at 1:15 pm. David moves faster than me, and I was continually stopping to take photos and shoot video of the spectacular scenery. I am sharing some of my favorite photos with you in this post.
The distance from Phakding to Namche Bazaar is 7.1 miles. The rise is gradual until you reach the suspension bridge featured in one of the photos below. At that point, the route turns long and steep, and the trek becomes quite arduous.
Namche Bazar is known as the gateway to the High Himalaya and is located in the Solukhumbu District of Nepal. It is a small crescent shaped village literally carved into the side of the mountain. Most trekkers and climbers take a rest day at Namche Bazaar in order to acclimatize to the altitude and enjoy the amenities. Those amenities include restaurants, lodges, shops, bakeries and internet cafes. The bakeries in Namche Bazaar are famous.
Namche Bazaar has always been a major trading center in the Khumbu region of Nepal. Every Saturday, Sherpas from nearby villages bring their agricultural products and electronics to Namche Bazaar where they are displayed for sale in an open market in the center of the village. I look forward to visiting this market tomorrow.
We are staying at the Camp de Base lodge, which is owned by Asian Trekking. The food and accommodates are excellent.
Tomorrow is a rest day, and the day after-tomorrow we push on to Dole. I’ll send some photos of Namche Bazaar tomorrow night.

Beautiful!! Is the snowy peak in some of the pictures your destination? Is it the peak that is named for you? I love the pictures. Stay safe!!
I’ve always enjoyed the trek from Phakding to Namche. The hill going up the second half of the trek is a toughie when you’re acclimatizing. Namche’s a great little town. Enjoy your day there and have a safe trip! Watch out for the yaks!
