Motorcycle Adventures
I have owned four motorcycles-a 1995 Honda Shadow American Classic, a 1997 Harley Davidson Softail Custom, a 1998 Harley Davidson Road King Classic and a 2025 Yamaha XT250.
I purchased my 1100cc Honda Shadow in June of 1995. This was my first motorcycle. In 1995, I rode this bike through nine states from Costa Mesa, California to Grand Forks, North Dakota. The trip lasted 10 days. Here is the trip report. Since I was relocating to Hong Kong in 1996, I shipped the bike from Grand Forks to Hong Kong. I rode my Shadow all over Hong Kong and the New Territories from 1996 to 2000.
In November of 1996, I purchased a 1997 1350cc Harley Davidson Softail Custom motorcycle in Long Island, New York. From May 22 to May 30, 1997, I rode this bike from New York to California along Highway 40. The cross-country trip was tough but truly enjoyable. Here is the trip report.
In 1998, my wife bought me a 1450cc Harley Davidson Road King Classic motorcycle as a Christmas gift. After a lot of planning, I rode my cruiser from Costa Mesa, California to Banff Park Canada. The round trip was 37-days, and I logged 6,279 miles. I passed through 10 states and three Canadian provinces and visited seven national parks. Here is the trip report. A movie of my trip to Banff Park can be seen here.
In 2025, I purchased a Yamaha XT250 dual sport (on road, off road) motorcycle and rode it across the United States, starting on June 27 at Virginia Beach, Virginia and ending on July 28 at Port Orford, Oregon. I followed the same route as the TransAmerica Trail but stayed on roads. I logged 4,750 miles and passed through 14 states. A movie of my cross-country trip can be seen here.
I decided to add a sidecar to my Road King so I could take my special needs grandson, Ollie, on road trips. In September of 2012, I rode this bike from Costa Mesa to Seattle, Washington to have the sidecar added by Liberty Sidecars. In March of 2013, I picked up my bike and sidecar in Seattle and rode it back to Costa Mesa. Here is the Trip Report. Ollie loves riding in the sidecar.
