Carrion de los Condes, Spain

Castrojertz to Fromista, September 13, 2022 (16.7miles)
Just one mile out of Castrojertz is a steep 2,953 feet climb to the high ridge (Alto de Mostelares) where I enjoyed a spectacular view of the valley below. The ridge levels out and, after a short walk across the high plains, I descended down the other side of the mountain. It was a long walk featuring very high winds and cool temperatures. The forecast called for rain at 2:30 pm, so I was racing against time to achieve Fromista before the storm. Boadilla del Camino was the last village I passed through before arriving at Fromista. In the center of Boadella, I observed the Rolla de Boadella, a towering post covered in scallop shells. This landmark, located right in front of the church, is also known as the “Tower of Justice.” In the past, people found guilty of serious offenses were hanged at this post.
I arrived at my hotel in Fromista at 3:30 pm. The rained poured down at 4 pm, accompanied by thunder and lightning. I was so happy to be inside.
This is the first day in a long time I have not suffered soreness or pain in my lower back. I’m hoping I have walked through this issue and it will not return.
Fromista to Carrion de los Condes, September 14, 2022 (12.3 miles)
I was back on the Camino de Santiago at 8:30 am. The forecast called for rain beginning at 10 am and lasting most of the day. Two miles out of Fromista, two options are available for Pilgrims: one trail option follows the main highway leading into Carrion de los Condes; and the other, longer, option follows a dirt path that runs alongside the Rio Ucieza river. I chose the longer route. Five miles before Carrion de los Condes, it started to rain. I took shelter in a 12th Century Romanesque church, donned my rain gear and was back on the Camino. The rain, mostly a drizzle, lasted until I arrived in Carrion de los Condes at 1:45 pm. This was my shortest day on the Camino.
Tomorrow, I leave for Terradillos de los Templarious.

Bill, your daughters and granddaughter have shared their excited anticipation rejoining you in a matter of days. Shared common experiences build a lifetime of precious memories. So much for all of you still to see on the Camino.

That was a great hotel Emebed! We were on the top floor. Janice said, “Let’s run up to our room and make!” I said I can do one or the other but not both!”
