Costa Mesa, California
Dear Family & Friends:
This week, I begin “Adventure 2025”-a coast-to-coast motorcycle trip across the United States along the TransAmerica Trail. Check out my March 19, 2025 blog post describing the TAT and the trip.
My Yamaha XT250 dual-sport motorcycle has been shipped to Virginia Beach, Virginia and is waiting for me. I will fly to Virginia on June 26, pick up the bike at a local motorcycle shop and ride south from Virginia Beach to Nag’s Head, North Carolina, where the TAT starts for me. I hope to be on the TAT by June 28. This will be a grueling, 6,600 mile transcontinental journey which will present an incredible variety of challenges since most of the trail is off-pavement, putting me on dirt, gravel, logging, forest, fire and mountain roads.
I have completed many hours of research on the TAT, added accessories to make my bike TAT-ready and practiced on local trails (not always with great success). I hope I am ready, but I won’t know until I leave the pavement.
You can follow my trip through the blog on my website where I will post regular reports on my progress across country. I will also post daily photos and videos on my Eight Summits Facebook page. Based upon my assessment of the TAT and my level readiness, I expect a lot of drama on this adventure.
