July 24, 2025
Dear Family & Friends:
July 23. Today, I leave Utah and enter Idaho. In order to move off the major highways and upgrade the scenery, I decided to change my route and take backroads into the Sawtooth National Forest in Idaho. My destination is Sun Valley, Idaho, a favorite ski venue in the winter. What a great decision! I arrived in Sun Valley at 1:30pm and booked a room at Knob Hill Inn. I enjoyed one of the best dinners of the trip at the Pioneer Saloon in downtown Sun Valley-salad, New York Strip and a fully loaded Idaho potato.
July 24. This was a record day on the BTAT. I was on why bike for over 8-1/2 hours. The ride through the Sawtooth National Forest was one of the most scenic of the trip. One of the reasons I was on my bike so long is the constant stopping to snap photos and take videos of the breathtaking beauty all around me. At 5:15 pm, I crossed the border into Oregon. So now, I am riding through the last state on the BTAT. I stopped in Ontario, the first city across after entering Oregon, and booked a room at a Best Western motel. Port Orford is about 400 miles from Ontario. I should be finished with the BTAT by the end of the weekend.

Glad you were able to enjoy the Sawtooth National Forest. For many summers, I drove to Idaho and camped in the Sawtooths. A beautiful place for sure.
Enjoy the last hours of your adventure. It’s almost in the bag.
Best wishes
Steve
That strip steak looks mighty tasty; baked potato, too!!
Wondering if you had your bike shipped out East, as it’s sporting CA plate & tags.
Welcome to the Beaver State. On completion of the BTAT, will you turn south and ride back to Costa Mesa via Coastal Highway 1? We’ll be on the lookout for your next post.
Ada says hi. C U on 8/2.
