Castrojertz, Spain

Dear Family & Friends:

Burgos to Hornillos del Camino, September 11, 2022 (13.2 miles)

More rolling hills and beautiful open country. My first stop was the village of Tardajos. It was Sunday, so I attended a portion of the church service at the local church. It was a fun, easy walk with nothing much of consequence to report in this post, other than I had a good day.

I stayed at the Meeting Point Albergue in Hornillos del Camino. I love this Albergue. We enjoyed a large group dinner with fellow Pilgrims. The Paella and wine were great. One of the Pilgrims told me this has been one of the busiest Septembers ever on the Camino de Santiago. He said a huge wave of Pilgrims is just behind us. He heard one of the villages had so many Pilgrims they had to open the local gymnasium to accommodate everyone. I’m glad we are ahead of them.

Hornillos del Camino to Castrojertz, September 12, 2022 (12.2 miles)

It rained in the night, and I resumed my walk under a nice cloud cover with a cool breeze the entire way to Castrojertz. I was fortunate to meet two couples on the Camino-Bruce and Janice and Bill and Trendelyn-and we all stayed at the Meeting Point. We started the walk together in the morning. Sharon and I share a lot in common with Bruce and Janice since they are 80-years old and have been married 60 years. Their oldest child is 59, just like us. Bruce, Janice, Bill and Trendelyn are really nice people, and I hope we meet again on the Camino, especially after my daughters and my granddaughter join me in Astorga (only 9 days from now!). I captured some good drone footage on the way to Castrojertz. It rained lightly on the last mile into Castrojertz, which was really nice.

My hotel in Castrojertz is fabulous. Emebed Posada is a home restored as a hotel. The manager told me I have the best room in the hotel. As a bonus, a visiting professional chef cooked my pasta pesto/beef stew dinner tonight. How lucky is that for me?

Tomorrow, I leave for Fromista.

Buen Camino!
